Madelein Marincowitz, a South African painter currently living and working in Knysna, where she draws inspiration from the beautiful natural environment. She’s known for her unique delicate and detailed style, creating a feeling of loss or distant memories.
Marincowitz (b. 1968) studied Fine Arts at the Tshwane University of Technology after matriculating at Po Arte School for Art, Ballet, Music, and Drama in 1985.
Growing up in an artistic environment, Marincowitz started an early career as a set painter for PACT (Performing Arts of the Transvaal) State Theatre, Pretoria, under the guidance of her mother.
After Marincowitzcompleted her studies, majoring in painting, she continued in the commercial art industry as a set painter for Cape Town Opera and the Film industry.
Although Marincowitz never stopped painting in her own capacity and her work has featured in numerous exhibitions countrywide. She had her first solo exhibition in 2009 at Rust-en-Vrede Gallery in Durbanville and in2010 she had two solo exhibitions, at Brundyn + Gonsalves (I’Art Gallery), in Cape Town, and at the GUS Gallery, University Stellenbosch, South Africa.
